A poem. Thoughts on New Years.

New Years
A time of new beginnings
Fresh starts from past brokenness
Redemption

Self-improvement
Healthy living
Exercising one's body, mind, soul
Cleansing

Opportunity
New outlooks on relationships,  life
Seeking what brings joy
Fulfillment

Forward
Taking the leap
Trying on newness
Risking it all

New Years
Equalizer for all
Not alone
Renewed hope

May your year bring joy, adventure, newness, and love.

XOXO

Ducks for the win!! I'm proud to be a Duck every day but I'm even more proud to be a Duck on a day like today, with such a great win! Mariotta delivered and we had a couple interceptions to give us a nice cushion on the scoreboard. Other than a completely ridiculous non-call on the most obvious face mask I've ever seen, it seemed like a pretty clean game.

Congrats to Mark and his team on a successful season, and seeing as this is a pretty young team, cheers to a few more ;).

XOXO,

Jennica

PS-I went with the pigtails today since my hair is getting just long enough for it. I can't say it makes me look more mature by any means, but it's more of a fun look for game day. Win the Day!!!

Christian Dior wrote a little Alphabet for Fashion book. Below are Christian's thoughts on fashion and individuality. After stating that

"...individuality will be always one of the conditions of real elegance."

Christian says this from The Little Fashion Dictionary:

Available for purchase at Mapel Boutique in Bridgeport Village

I've noticed that some of the things that I get rid of most often are the trendy pieces. In a short time, one can spend a lot of buckos on things that are in at the moment. Instead of going with what everyone else says you should wear, ask yourself what looks best on your body type? What makes you feel the most confident? What expresses who you are the most? Then wear whatever "that" is and go stop traffic.

Tonight, I had the opportunity to experience the Festival of Lights at The Grotto. As you walk in, the trees are glowing with light from the thousands of strands of beaming Christmas lights. After paying an admission fee, our group of friends strolled through the walkway, enjoying the lit scenery, all the while embracing the story of Christ's birth.

I have to say, my favorite part of The Grotto is stepping up to the majestic 110 foot rock wall with a cave carved in the lower half. Inside the cave is the shrine to center those seeking to connect spiritually. Though we didn't get to go to the top where there is more of a garden and a prayer room overlooking the entire city of Portland, we did get to enjoy a performance of an acapella group, Men In Black. They sang many holiday favorites which echoed beautifully through the heights of the charming chapel.

If you haven't had a chance to check it out, there is still time to enjoy some holiday festivities! Take your kids, take your husband, family, and friends and take in the view. Check out the schedule - lots of great musical performances to come!

There's still time for some holiday fun ;)

I just picked up a book titled, You Are A Badass: How To Stop Doubting Your Greatness And Start Living an Awesome Life. Now I don't necessarily like to always admit what book I'm reading at the time as it tends to be a reflection of myself in some way or another. I have to say - this book is one of those books. However, I don't think the title of the book really explains the actual purpose behind it's egocentric title.

Honestly, it's more of a self-help book, encouraging one to spiff up weaknesses in one's life, pick themselves up off the couch, get rid of self doubt and whole-heartedly go after whatever goals and dreams one desires to prance, sprint, fly after. The author is a little crass, but that's part of what makes it so interesting. I'm looking forward to a fresh perspective, thoughtful insight, and blunt bossiness in hopes of shaping up areas that need growth in my life.

Pick it up. Check it out. Let me know what other great books are out there!

Merry Christmas!!  I hope you were all able to celebrate today with family and friends. Today I chose to go with the velour skinnies and a cardigan with jewel and sequin details. I thought both would be quite festive for holiday attire. If I were attending a holiday party, I would have gone with a black dress and LOTS of gold jewelry! Keep that in mind if you're looking for a New Years Eve get-up ;).

Because I spent all day with family, there is no time for an in-depth blog post today, but I will say that this day marks 1/3 of the way done with my project!! What a perfect day to celebrate! I've made it this far - there's no going back! Things to look forward to in blog posts to come? More kitty pictures of course..., clothes that haven't seen daylight from my closet yet..., a peplum I will be making from a pattern using vintage fabric, and handcrafted jewelry by moi (It will be for sale so don't be bashful if there's a piece of jewelry you want...)!! Woot woot! I'm thrilled with what the next two thirds of my project hold, and am anxiously awaiting what else I can learn from rejecting consumerism.

merry christmas & a happy new year!

xoxo
