Last night I was watching Dancing With the Stars - always an impressive show -  and the contestants were sharing about the most significant year of their lives and tributing their dance to that event or person. All of the stories were very heart-felt and sweet, but the last story was the most captivating of all.

Amy Purdy, a bronze medalist in snowboarding was the final act with none other than Derek Hough. At age 19, Purdy was submitted to the hospital with meningitis. It had affected her body to such an extreme, leaving no choice for the doctors but to amputate both legs below the knee. Still not being able to walk, she thought she would give dancing with her Dad a shot.  They then played the home video of this moment (insert pathetic bawling here, one cat on either side of me). From there, the performance began - with the most graceful, flowing movements, one couldn't tell where one movement began and another ended. There are no words to describe the beauty, strength and confidence this dance represented.

No dry eye in the nation, their dance came to an end, and her father, with tears in his eyes, yelled from the crowd, "I'm so proud of you!"  With her will and determination and the continued support of both of her loving parents, she overcame adversity both physically and mentally. In an interview with abc she states, "Our biggest disability is our, up here," pointing to her head.

What "disability" do you need to overcome?
