Thanks to Martin Luther King Jr. and his commitment to change, we have today off - at least most of us. People see a three day weekend as an opportunity to plan a getaway with friends or family and often times forget to spend a moment acknowledging the depth and breadth of impact MLK actually had on more than the US, but the world.

His commitment to change empowered the oppressed to have a voice. His commitment to change allowed the emotionally blind to see with new eyes. His commitment to change leveled the playing field for all. His commitment to change allowed the world to begin joining hands in peace rather than throwing punches. And his commitment to change drove out darkness with light.

In order for this change to continue however, it means that those that learn about it must pick up the torch and carry it on to the next generation. Change does not happen without it's workers. Change does not happen in the hands of the passive. Change does not happen in the hearts of the selfish. Change begins with you.

Be the change you want to see in the world. Pick up the torch.
